Expanding beyond Canada—Interview in Stars’ Hope Autism School

As I went back to Beijing, China for the summer break, I had the opportunity to interview the founder of Stars’ Hope Autism School. Throughout the interview I was able to learn about her daughter’s experience with autism and the reason behind the creation of the school. As a mother, she never ceased in creating a more loving and caring environment for her daughter. However, the journey has been filled with difficulties and struggles. In the hope of building a better autistic community in China, she decided to found Stars’ Hope Autism school that helps autistic children gain help and education.

A key element to the conversation was around families who have an Autistic member, where the principle believes that it is essential to education the family and the parents in order to create a better environment for the kids. The interview triggered my thinking around helping the autistic group. I also was able to draw key points from the conversation and compare it to the Autistic centers around the Shawnigan community.
